My name is Laili Aidi. I hold Diploma and Bachelor of Informatics Engineering from Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Telkom / Institut Teknologi Telkom (Telkom Institute of Technology), Indonesia. I interest and plan to apply for Master's Secret Programme, Secret University for 2009 – 2010 admission. After read the information for these master programmes, that available in xx, I have questions and information about Admission Criteria:
Based on the admission requirements, it is noted that:
" An applicable degree may be one of the following:
- An undergraduate academic degree awarded in the field of computer science. For example the following educational areas: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering.
- An applicable undergraduate academic degree in the field of economics that includes a minimum of 30 ECTS credits of studies in one of the above-mentioned areas of computer science. For example the following educational areas: Business Information Technology, Business Administration.
- An applicable undergraduate academic degree in another field relevant to the field of the programme, including a minimum of 30 ECTS credits in one of the aforementioned areas of computer science.”
In my his case, I hold both Diploma of Informatics Engineering and Bachelor of Informatics Engineering. The Bachelor degree programme, that I joined, is special programme for applicants that already hold Diploma Degree, with the relevant field in last education (diploma). This programme usually referred by Indonesia acronym as S1 Ekstensi, contain 2 years study periods with 4 semesters.
Even though it is different with regular known bachelor programme (120 ECTS / 144 SKS), this is based on the regulation that established by the Indonesia Ministry of Education, that state, applicant from Diploma degree (3 years course period with 6 semesters) can continue education at the same subject to special Bachelor degree programme (study path for practical specification). I passed this Diploma programme with 112 SKS (total credit hours in Indonesia’s education) and Bachelor programme with 57 SKS. Based on that regulation, I eligible to hold Ahli Madya / Amd (Indonesia acronym for Diploma degree) and Sarjana Teknik / ST (Indonesia acronym for Bachelor degree in Engineering).
This information can be confirmed to the Indonesia Ministry of Education or General Directorate of Higher Education office of Indonesia. This kind of education path and level is also mentioned in International Standard Classification of Education ISCED 1997 that was published by UNESCO as 4A (for Diploma degree programme) and 5B (for Bachelor Degree programme).
Referring to those aspects mentioned above, does my degrees (diploma + bachelor degree) still meet the requirement of Secret programme? In order graduate students of Informatics Engineering with similar background from Indonesia will have the same opportunity to apply and pursue studies in Secret Programme, I do hope that Secret University will consider these matters and information.
I would be grateful for your response, as the round for 2009 - 2010 admission of Secret programme was already opened and will be end at January xx, 2010.
